"I have never encountered such a frustrating and dismissive experience with an insurance company, which led to our recent switch to a national competitor. After several years of things going just as anyone would hope for and expect, we were provided with a list of two property-related maintenance items that needed correction to maintain coverage. No big deal, trimming back trees that had become close to the home and adding a small handrail to the back deck. We were given 6 months to complete them, and decided to wait for the core of Winter to pass and handle in Spring, at which time each was addressed.
Interestingly, 30 days ahead of the completion date, we received a notice of cancellation. At this point the trees had been taken care of but the hand railing was scheduled, and for context, that did happen ahead of schedule and ahead of the completion date given by State Farm.
Attempts to get confirmation on whether our policy would be renewed were met with vague answers and that underwriting would need to review the situation. Ultimately, at the eleventh hour, we had yet to receive a definitive answer on our policy renewal, so we decided to take matters into our own hands.
The final insult came when I informed them that, due to their lack of communication, I would have no choice but to cancel not just one, but both of my policies (home and auto). We wanted to avoid suddenly being without insurance. Their response was astonishing in its indifference. No attempt to retain our business. No questions. No concern. Just a complete lack of care that speaks volumes about how they value (or rather, don’t value) their customers.
This experience has made it clear: this agent was quick to demand compliance but unwilling to uphold their end of the relationship. To go one step further, I feel as though State Farm corporate wouldn't be pleased to hear how this particular agent handled our situation, so I place more fault on this local office. Fortunately, we are now in better hands, with nicely trimmed trees and a deck that is up to code."

We strive to communicate underwriting requirements as early as possible. In this case, we reached out 6 months in advance to let you know your policy could be non-renewed if the property remedies weren't met. We appreciate your effort to provide the documentation before the deadline, and my team submitted it promptly to our underwriting partners.
Unfortunately, the 30-day cancellation notice is completely automated if no evidence is received by that mark. My team tried to accelerate the review process as soon as we got your photos, but we were unsuccessful getting a response before the day the policy expired. If I were in your shoes, I also would have secured another carrier rather than risk going a day without the protection you and your family deserve.
We appreciated your business over the years, and I am deeply sorry our communication at the end left you feeling like we didn't care or were indifferent. That was never our intent. We genuinely care about our customers, and I wish this had ended differently.

"Amie contacted me to set up a telephone meeting with John, and I asked to meet with him in person at his office. (I prefer meeting in person...) I arrived and first met Amie, who was delightful! She kept me interested in what was going on and we soon became like old friends. When I was introduced to John, he was equally friendly. We talked about his background, schools, and family. He also helped me with my policy. We even walked out to my car to check on some damage (that was pre-existing) and he was very helpful. Overall, the experience perfectly fit my expectations for an in-person interview with John and Amie. I'm convinced that the Matson State Farm team is going to take good care of me.
